After celebrating World Refugee Day at the State Capitol on Wednesday June 20th, please join the Denver Film Society, R Bazaar, UNA Denver and the Village Exchange Center at the Sie Film Center for an evening of music, shopping and film! This event is sponsored by the Western Union Foundation with support from the City of Aurora, Office of International and Immigrant Affairs.
5:30 to 6:45: A celebration of the creativity and entrepreneurship of refugees who have made a home in Colorado. Featuring R Bazaar and the Congolese Gloria Choir.
6:45 to 9:00: Screening of Human Flow Directed by Ai Wei Wei.
Every year on World Refugee Day communities around the world, including here in Colorado, pause to honor the spirit and courage of millions of refugees worldwide. This year we will pause to recognize and celebrate the contributions refugees make to our state and the employers and community groups that work to welcome them.
There is an impressive line up of refugee and local employer speakers along with live music, entertainment and vendors to peruse.
Don't forget to preorder your World Refugee Day T-shirt! T-shirts and Totes are on sale now and items will be shipped directly to your home in time to wear at the rally. All funds raised will go to support World Refugee Colorado 2018 events and subsequent events--including honorariums for speakers and performers.
Join us for the 3rd Annual Global Food & Brews Fest at The Spring Café! Enjoy an evening of live world music, delicious international cuisine from local food trucks, shopping with R Bazaar and craft beers from local breweries. Enter in a raffle to win exciting prizes. Kids will enjoy face painting and games.
All proceeds will go towards The Spring Café, a local café and coffee shop and social enterprise that provides refugees and immigrants a head start on their careers through on-the-job training.
EPIX and the International Rescue Committee in Denver invite you to a free community screening of the film This is Home on Sunday, June 10 at Sie FilmCenter.
The film goes beyond the statistics, headlines, and political rhetoric to tell deeply personal stories, putting a human face on the global refugee crisis. The film follows four Syrian refugee families arriving in America and struggling to find their footing. Displaced from their homes and separated from loved ones, they are given eight months of assistance from the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore to become self-sufficient. As they learn to adapt to challenges, including the newly imposed travel ban, their strength and resilience are tested.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and a chance to support refugee owned businesses at the R Bazaar pop-up.
